“It’s 106 miles to Chicago.  We got a tank full of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses!  HIT IT!”  If you didn’t buy your ticket from this quote alone, I’m disappointed in you.  For those of you too young to know who the Blues Brothers are (and yes, there are those people out there in our midst), here is a synopsis of this show from the Center for the Arts website:

“Born in the ‘70s from the comic genius of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, Jake and Elwood Blues became an unprecedented, international phenomenon—part performance art, part music, and all entertainment—and it is every bit as popular now as they were 30 years ago. So throw on your black suit, porkpie hat, and coolest shades, and come enjoy unforgettable classic R&B songs like “Respect,” “Think,” and “Gimme Some Loving.” You can help the brothers save their Chicago orphanage as they perform this one last big show—if they can avoid the long arm of the law, that is.”

You also never know who will make an appearance in this show – it’s known for attracting celebrity drop-ins!

Manassas:

Open Mic Night, 7-9pm, Saturday, February 18, 2012

Support up and coming local musicians at Open Mic night, while enjoying a tasty Italian Soda or delicious coffee!  The performers tend to fall on the young side but you’ll experience talent and music unlike what you hear at other venues.  This place is full of local flavor!  Starbucks it’s not – inviting and welcoming with big comfy chairs.  It’s a pleasant way to pass a low-key evening.

Artist Talk with Elizabeth Holtry on Saturday, February 18, 2012; 12pm-1pm.  Free

Come and talk with artist, Elizabeth Holtry, about her work in the newest Hillyer display, Toile du Juoy.

“Holtry’s paintings depict animals that few people appreciate, such as hyenas, insects, and rats. Often wondering why it is that people advocate equality between humans, yet so freely discriminate in our opinions of animals, her work addresses our prejudicial attitudes toward these animals. Holtry’s inspiration also comes from an ongoing interest in the decorative arts and textiles.”
